KCB offers presentations, activity books, lesson kits, and teacher
workshops that can be used in a classroom setting or with a group.
Presentations:
Columbus Pride: It's our City
is a 45-minute interactive,
elementary school age presentation that teaches students about litter
prevention, graffiti abatement and how they can throw away less and help
conserve resources by reducing, reusing, recycling and rethinking (The four
R's).
 |
|
KCB offers a Community Involvement
presentation that encourages neighborhoods to organize litter cleanups or graffiti
paint-outs, and describes the recycling collection options available to
residents. |

|
Kids REUSIN’JUNK
is a student activity book targeted at grades 3-5. The book provides
teachers with 50 creative, fun-filled and inexpensive reuse ideas and
activities to help students learn about source reduction and
conservation. |

Integrated Solid Waste Management:
Created for high school (Grades 9-12), college, and adult audiences, the
presentation explains management of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) generated by
households, businesses, and institutions. Specifically, the presentation
describes how much waste we generate, the five methods of managing our waste
(i.e., source reduction, recycling, composting, waste-to-energy, and
landfills), and how consumers can reduce the amount of waste they generate
and dispose.
Teacher Partnerships: The
Keep Columbus Beautiful Education and Outreach Coordinator will facilitate
environmental activities for elementary age (Grades K–5) students.
Activities from Waste In Place, Windows On Waste, and Super
Saver Investigators provide students with knowledge, information, and skills
to help them make informed, responsible decisions about solid waste management
and its effect on people, their community, and the environment. The activities
supplement lessons in science, math, citizenship and language arts.
Created by the National
Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and The Dow Chemical Co., An Ounce of
Prevention is a mid-level (Grades 6-8), multi-series science curriculum on
source reduction. Partnering with Columbus middle school teachers, the Keep
Columbus Beautiful Education and Outreach Coordinator, over multiple class
periods, teaches students about source reduction and resource conservation.
Activities from An Ounce of Prevention provide an interdisciplinary
approach (i.e., science, math, citizenship and language arts). An Ounce of
Prevention fosters sound thinking and enhances the learning and use of
analytical skills, tools, and concepts.
